Experience one of World War II’s most legendary prisoner-of-war camps, Stalag Luft 3, where daring escapes, including The Great Escape, took place.

Located 100 miles northwest of Wrocław, this former POW camp for Allied airmen was designed to be escape-proof, but two remarkable prisoner escapes proved otherwise.

Join a museum guide as they take you through the museum exhibits and the historic remains of the prison camp, including the site of the infamous "Harry" tunnel and the memorial to the 50 prisoners who lost their lives following The Great Escape.

🏛️ Stalag Luft 3 – WWII POW Camp

Built in 1942 by the German Luftwaffe, Stalag Luft III was intended to be impossible to escape from due to its sandy soil and security measures. However, it became the site of two of the most daring escape attempts in history:

  • The Great Escape (1944): A massive tunnel escape by Allied prisoners, immortalized in books and film.
  • The Wooden Horse Escape (1943): A successful breakout using a wooden vaulting horse to hide tunnel digging.

🕵️ Explore the Historic Site

Your museum guide will take you through:

  • The Stalag Luft 3 Museum with wartime artifacts and prisoner stories.
  • The reconstructed tunnel entrance of "Harry", the escape tunnel used in The Great Escape.
  • The original camp area, where you can still see parts of the barbed-wire fences and guard towers.
  • The Memorial to The Fifty, honoring the prisoners who were executed after the escape attempt.

This is a must-visit site for history enthusiasts, offering a deep dive into the realities of life in a WWII POW camp and the incredible bravery of Allied prisoners.
